Map of Austrian Nuclear Sites

Austria has a unique stance on nuclear power. The country built the Zwentendorf Nuclear Power Plant in the 1970s, but a public referendum in 1978 prevented it from ever becoming operational. Since then, Austria has maintained strong anti-nuclear policies, focusing on renewable energy sources like hydropower, wind, and solar. The Austrian government actively opposes nuclear energy, advocating for stricter regulations and supporting the phase-out of nuclear power in Europe. Find out where the country’s nuclear sites are located, and what goes on at each of them, on our interactive map of Austrian nuclear sites.
