Map of CANDU Reactors

CANDU reactors, developed in Canada, are a type of nuclear power reactor that uses natural uranium as fuel and heavy water as both a coolant and a moderator. Unlike light water reactors, CANDU reactors can be refuelled without shutting down, enhancing efficiency. Their design also allows for the use of alternative fuels such as thorium and recycled uranium. The reactors feature a unique horizontal fuel channel configuration, improving neutron economy. Known for their safety and reliability, CANDU reactors are widely used in Canada and internationally, contributing significantly to nuclear energy production while ensuring a stable and sustainable power supply. Find out where all CANDU reactor sites are located, and what goes on at each of them, on our interactive map of CANDU reactors.
